St. Stephen Byzantine Mission in Honomū

St. Stephen Byzantine Mission

About the St. Stephen's Byzantine Mission in Honomū

The Byzantine Catholic tradition is one of the Eastern Catholic Churches that is in full communion with the Pope of Rome while preserving the liturgical, theological, and spiritual heritage of the Byzantine (Eastern Orthodox) Tradition. Rooted in the ancient Church of Constantinople, this tradition emphasizes the Divine mystery, rich liturgy, and iconography, with the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom being central to its worship. The tradition is found in various particular Churches, including the Ukrainian, Ruthenian, Melkite, and other Eastern Catholic Churches. It stands as a vibrant example of the Catholic Church’s universality, showing how different liturgical and cultural expressions can coexist in unity of faith. The St. Stephen Byzantine Mission is under the authority of Father Tūlua-Álvarez as he is a Chaplain of the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Phoenix.

Father Tūlua-Álvarez celebrates Divine Liturgies for the Saint Stephen's Outreach Mission  at Good Shepherd Mission Church in Honomū on the first and third Sundays of the Month at 4:30 pm.

For more information about recieving the Sacraments in the Byzantine tradition, please contact Father Tūlua-Álvarez directly at (808) 855-8981 or his parish office at (808) 928-8208.
